Booking and arrival
Should I ring you or use the web form?
Either one. Ring us, or send the online form with your address, the make of the machine and the trouble you are seeing. A text comes back setting a two-hour window for the technician. If the brand and model number are handy, include them, since that helps the technician load the right parts before the visit. If the display is showing an error code, snap a picture and send that along as well.
How quickly can you get here?
Usually the same day. Same-day visits are available for all six machines, Monday through Saturday, from opening at 8 am until we close at 7 pm, so a dishwasher or a dryer can get an afternoon window just as a refrigerator can. Warm refrigerators and thawing freezers still take the first open slot, because food is on the clock. Tell us when you book if milk or meat is already at risk.
Do you have Saturday appointments?
Yes. Saturday keeps the same 8 am to 7 pm hours as a weekday, and a same-day visit is possible then too. People who cannot be home midweek tend to fill Saturday quickly, so calling in the morning helps. The arrival window works as it does on any weekday: two hours, confirmed by text. If Saturday is full, we offer the earliest weekday window instead; Sunday we are closed.
Can I be at work during the appointment?
Only if another grown-up is there to unlock the door and sign off on the written price. In rentals and association townhomes, whoever lives there handles the door, and the person who owns or manages the unit texts back a yes. If the machine sits behind a locked garage or a gate, send the code ahead so the window is not wasted.

Pricing and the $89 diagnostic
What exactly do I pay for the diagnostic?
The diagnostic is $89. It pays for the technician’s trip, the testing with a meter and a plain explanation of what is wrong. Once you okay the fix, the job’s written figure already contains that $89. Say no, and your total for the afternoon stays at $89.
Is there anything off for a first repair with you?
Yes, for customers we have not worked for before. Your first repair with Agate can come in up to $15 lower. The size of the repair sets the exact amount, and the technician writes it on the quote, so you see it before you say yes. To claim it, mention that it is your first visit when you call, or tick the box on the booking form. It applies to the repair only: the $89 diagnostic is not lowered, and if you turn the repair down, the visit is still $89.
Can you check a second machine on the same visit?
Yes. Tell us when you book, or ask the technician once they are in the house. The diagnostic for that second machine costs $10 less. If you approve its repair, that diagnostic is included in the repair price the same way the first one is; if you pass on it, the reduced diagnostic is all that machine adds to the bill.
Why won’t you quote a repair by phone?
We don’t, because a guess helps nobody. Two dryers with the same symptom can need different parts, one a thermal fuse and the other a cracked igniter. The written price follows the testing and covers the entire job in one number, so the figure you approve is the figure you pay.
What happens when a part isn’t on the truck?
Commonly failing parts ride along on the truck, so one trip handles most jobs. When a part needs ordering, we place the order, text you once it arrives and set up a return window. That second visit carries no trip charge of its own; the written price you approved already covers it.
What does the warranty cover?
Your invoice spells out a written warranty on the work. It covers the fix itself. Should the identical fault come back while that warranty is in force, call us; the return visit falls under the warranty rather than starting a new diagnostic. Keep the invoice somewhere you can find it.

Machines, brands and repair-or-replace
What machines do you work on?
Six: the refrigerator and the freezer (the ones out in the garage or down in the basement too), the washer whether it loads from the top or the front, the dryer on gas or electric, the dishwasher, anything you cook on from wall ovens to induction glass, and the ice maker inside your refrigerator. We leave microwaves, wine coolers, furnaces, softeners, disposals, water heaters, commercial gear and standalone ice machines to others.
Is my machine too old or too new for you?
Rarely. We see older Whirlpool, Maytag and Kenmore machines in basements that have run for decades, and newer LG, Bosch and Café models with control boards and sensors. GE, Frigidaire and KitchenAid are regulars as well, and so are Electrolux, Amana and Speed Queen. Samsung washers, dryers and ranges also come through our hands. Where a maker’s warranty still applies, we point you there first.
How do I know whether to repair or replace?
Let the diagnosis decide it with you. The technician shows what failed, notes anything else that is worn, such as bearings, a rusting cabinet or a cracked tub, and gives an opinion on whether the machine has years left. Our repair-or-replace guides go deeper for each of the six machines. If replacing wins, the $89 is all you spend with us.
Can you fix an ice maker that only makes hollow or small cubes?
Usually, yes. Hollow or undersized cubes mean water is arriving too slowly: a screen at the inlet valve choked with grit, a supply line pinched when the refrigerator was pushed back, an aging saddle valve starving the pressure, or a water filter that should have been swapped months ago. On hard well water the valve can crust over. The technician checks flow and voltage at the valve before naming the part.

Roseville, St. Paul and nearby
Which cities do you serve?
Home base is Roseville, and St. Paul’s north and central neighborhoods are a regular stop. North of us we cover Shoreview, Arden Hills, New Brighton and Mounds View. To the east it is Maplewood, North St. Paul and White Bear Lake, and nearer in, Little Canada, Vadnais Heights and Falcon Heights. Just outside one of those? Ask, and we will say whether a window is possible.
My laundry is in an old St. Paul basement with steep stairs. Is that a problem?
Not for a repair. Our technicians work in Como, Hamline-Midway, Frogtown and Merriam Park basements all the time, low ceilings, narrow treads and all. Most washer and dryer parts come down the stairs in a tool bag. We repair the machine where it stands near the floor drain rather than hauling it up, and we note anything worrying about an old outlet or a gas connector while we are there.
Is softened St. Paul water a problem for my washer or dishwasher?
It can. St. Paul, Falcon Heights, Roseville, Arden Hills, Little Canada and Maplewood all get water the McCarrons plant has already softened. With water that soft, whatever the detergent box suggests is usually more than needed: washers foam up and leave residue, and dishwashers film or etch glasses. Use less soap, and ask whether a home softener is even needed on top of it.
I live in Shoreview on well water. What should I watch for?
Scale. Shoreview’s city wells deliver hard water, and its plant takes out iron and manganese without softening. Over time that leaves white crust on dishwasher heating elements and spray arms, slows ice maker fill valves and clogs the small screens where hoses meet a washer’s inlet valve. A softener in good order makes a real difference, and we clean those screens while we are there.
