Highway 96 · drifted-over vent hood
After a heavy snowfall, a rambler near Highway 96 had an electric dryer shutting its heat off halfway through every load. The technician dug out the vent hood, which sat below a drift, and found the flap frozen in place. Inside, the high-limit thermostat had been tripping to protect the element. It still tested sound, so the visit ended with a clear vent and advice to keep the hood shoveled.
Old Highway 8 · squeal at startup
A dryer in a lower-level laundry room off Old Highway 8 let out a sharp squeal at the start of every cycle. The noise came from a glazed idler pulley and drum rollers worn flat on one side. The technician had all of them on the truck, replaced them, checked the belt for cracks and ran a load to make sure the drum turned quietly.
North of I-694 · tripped thermal fuse
In a basement laundry north of I-694, the drum turned but stayed cold. A meter showed the thermal fuse open and the element intact. A new fuse by itself would have blown again before long, so the technician traced the duct, pulled a fist-sized wad of lint out of the elbow behind the dryer, and only then fitted the fuse and confirmed heat at the exhaust.
